WordPress Maintenance

We maintain
your WordPress website

Core, theme and plugin updates, backups, monitoring, security and performance, handled by a WordPress team in Fürth near Nuremberg. Updates are tested in staging before they reach your live site.

Your installation was built by someone else, or nobody has touched it since launch? That is the normal starting point. We take over existing WordPress installations after an assessment, without rebuilding what already works.

What our WordPress maintenance covers

Core updates

New WordPress versions are installed after testing, not blindly. We also keep an eye on the PHP version your hosting runs, because an outdated PHP stops receiving security fixes.

Theme & plugin updates

Plugins are where most WordPress problems start. We update them in staging first, check the pages that matter afterwards and remove plugins that are abandoned or no longer needed.

Backups

Regular backups of files and database, stored separately from the live site. A backup only counts once it has been restored, so we verify that the restore path actually works.

Monitoring

Uptime and error monitoring report outages and error spikes to us automatically, instead of waiting for a customer to notice that a form or a page is broken.

Security

Security patches go in promptly, logins and the admin area get hardened, and we check user accounts, file permissions and known vulnerabilities in the plugins you use.

Performance

We keep an eye on loading times, caching and image sizes. WordPress installations get slower over time as plugins and content pile up, so this belongs in maintenance, not in a one-off project.

Why an unmaintained WordPress site is a risk

WordPress powers a large share of the web, which makes it a standing target for automated attacks. Those attacks do not look for your company, they look for known vulnerabilities in outdated plugins and themes. An installation that nobody updates does not stay as it was, it slowly drifts out of support.

What we see in practice

  • Outdated plugins with publicly documented vulnerabilities are a standing invitation, because the exploits are known and scanned for automatically
  • An expired PHP version no longer receives security fixes, and at some point plugins stop supporting it
  • Without a tested backup there is no way back after a hack, a failed update or a hosting problem
  • Contact forms silently stop delivering after an update, and nobody notices the missing enquiries
  • A compromised site can end up sending spam or hosting malware, which damages your domain reputation and your search rankings
  • Personal data on an unpatched installation is a data protection problem, not just a technical one

How a takeover works

You do not need a new website to hand over maintenance. Every takeover starts with an assessment, and only after that do we say what we recommend.

1. Assessment

We look at WordPress and PHP version, theme, plugins, hosting, backups and open issues, and tell you honestly what needs attention first.

2. Takeover

Access, code and documentation are handed over in a coordinated way. We set up staging, backups and monitoring and fix the critical findings first.

3. Ongoing maintenance

Updates in a fixed rhythm, tested in staging, with backups, monitoring and a documented log of what changed and why.

Website or shop? The right page for your case

This page is about WordPress websites. As soon as money moves through the installation, maintenance changes: checkout, payment, tax and shipping logic, orders and customer data all need to be tested before an update goes live.

You run a WooCommerce shop

Shop maintenance goes beyond updates and backups, because checkout and orders must keep working after every change.

To WooCommerce support

You need a new WordPress site

If a rebuild really is the better option, we say so, with reasons. Our WordPress agency page explains how we build.

Your site is not WordPress

We also maintain Shopify shops and custom applications. Our general website maintenance page covers the other systems.

Frequently asked questions about WordPress maintenance

What is included in WordPress maintenance?

Updates for the WordPress core, the theme and all plugins, regular backups with a tested restore path, uptime and error monitoring, security hardening and an eye on loading times. We test updates in a staging environment before they touch the live site, so plugin conflicts show up with us and not with your visitors.

Why are automatic updates not enough?

Automatic updates install new versions, but nobody checks afterwards whether the site still works. Plugin conflicts, broken layouts and failing forms often stay unnoticed for weeks. Maintenance means someone tests the update first, looks at the site afterwards and can roll back if needed.

Do you take over WordPress installations built by someone else?

Yes, that is the usual case. We start with an assessment of the installation: WordPress and PHP version, theme, plugins, hosting, update status and open issues. After that we say what we recommend and what a takeover involves. Access, code and documentation are handed over in a coordinated way, the site stays online.

Does our website have to be rebuilt for this?

No. We take over the existing installation and improve it step by step. We only recommend a rebuild when the technical foundation genuinely requires it, for example when a theme is abandoned and no longer receives security updates. That stays your decision and is never a precondition.

What is the difference to WooCommerce support?

WordPress maintenance covers the website itself: core, theme, plugins, backups, monitoring and security. A WooCommerce shop adds checkout, payment, tax and shipping logic, orders and customer data, so updates need more careful testing. If you run a shop, our WooCommerce support page is the better fit.

Do you also maintain sites outside Fürth and Nuremberg?

Yes. We are based in Fürth near Nuremberg and work with clients throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Maintenance runs remotely, so location is not a limitation. For clients in the region an on-site meeting is of course possible.
